Wilma I. D’Angelo, 92, of Long Valley, NJ passed away peacefully on January 5, 2024 at Complete Care at Barn Hill located at 249 High Street, Newton, NJ 07860.
Wilma was born on October 12, 1931 in Bronx, NY to the late Henry and Mary Fessler. She graduated from Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park, NY. The family moved to Canal Road in Suffolk County Long Island, NY in 1946.
She married the love of her life Vito J. D’Angelo in 1953. They met working at Thomas Wilson Lace Company in Port Jefferson Station, NY, he as a weaver and Wilma as a secretary. Together they built their home next to her parents and celebrated 40 years of marriage prior to his passing in September of 1993. Wilma was employed as a Nurse’s Aide at Crest Hall Skilled Nursing Center in Middle Island, NY prior to her retirement. She enjoyed helping people and was always there for her residents. She moved to Hackettstown, NJ in 1993 to live near family. Wilma loved having a pet poodle to keep her company. Through the years, she would dote on them with treats and many, many toys. Wilma had a wonderful sense of interior design and loved decorating her homes. Her hobbies also included reading, ceramics, baking, sewing, crocheting and collecting. She had a large Longaberger collection and would collect cuckoo clocks, stemware and art from various places she traveled to in Europe and South America. Wilma was active in her Senior Citizens group and The Red Hat Society and was an aid at the local middle school.
Wilma is survived by her loving children, son James Henry D’Angelo and his wife Lorraine and daughter Kim Marie D’Angelo. 3 grandchildren; Nicholas Edward, Alexander James and Amanda Marie were the apples of her eye. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, January 14, 2024 from 2-4 PM at the Maguire-Scala Memorial Home, 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840
Wilma will be laid to rest beside her late husband Vito D’Angelo at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Boulevard, Calverton, NY 11933.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wilma’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
