Walter John Miller

Walter John Miller, 77, of Long Valley, NJ passed away peacefully on January 25, 2023, at Hackettstown Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

Walter was born on April 8, 1945, in Bayside, Queens, NY to the late Phillip and Dorothy Miller.

He married the love of his life, Barbara (nee: Keifer) in 1968. Previously residing in Maplewood, NJ, Wally and Barbara moved to Long Valley 40 years ago to raise their family. Wally earned his Bachelor’s degree at Wagner College and his Master’s at Kean College. His professional life was dedicated to educating children. For more than 25 years, Wally was the Chief School Administrator for Califon School District until his retirement in 2003. He was an avid reader, world traveler, and dedicated NY Mets and NY Jets fan. He loved trivia, good food, and an ice-cold Coke. His quick wit, sharp mind, and kind demeanor endeared him to everyone he met. But above all, Wally was a family man. He treasured spending time with his children and grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He will be greatly missed.

Wally is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Barbara Miller, his loving sons, David Miller and his wife Dana, and Matthew Miller and his wife Jennifer, and his cherished grandchildren: Drew, Alex, Lauren, Maddison, Siena, and Liam. Wally is also survived by his sister Phyllis Anderson and her husband John, as well as dear friends, Rudy and Linda Weth and their families.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Wally’s life on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the home of his son Matt, 5 Summer Lane, Califon, NJ 07830 from 2-6:00 PM. There will be a brief remembrance during the open house at 3:00 PM. Inurnment will take place at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Long Valley, NJ at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter’s name to the Califon Board of Education, 6 School St., Califon, NJ 07830. Checks are preferred.
