Thomas Francis Moran, 79, of Hackettstown, NJ passed away peacefully on February 9, 2023 at Hackettstown Medical Center.
Thomas was born on September 25, 1943 in Bronx, NY to the late Edwin and Helen Moran.
He grew up in Wharton, NJ where he attended Morris Hills high school. Thomas proudly served his country in the 82nd Airborne Rangers. He was both a paratrooper and Army medic. He was employed at Picattiny Arsenal from 1972 – 2003 retiring as HVAC foreman of utilities branch, division of engineering and housing. While employed at Picattiny he received numerous accolades for outstanding service throughout his career. Thomas was proud to be a member of the American Legion Post 164 in Hackettstown, NJ. He enjoyed the many friendships he made there. He was an avid golfer and frequented many courses in his spare time. Tom was an animal lover. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy, doing crossword puzzles, playing board games and Wii Bowling with his family. Above all he treasured the times spent with his family, especially his grandson Rowan.
Thomas is survived by his loving daughter Deborah Medcraft and her companion David Zettlemoyer, his son Michael Moran and his wife Lisa, his cherished grandson Rowan Medcraft and granddaughters Nicole and Toni Moran, his golfing buddies and all of his dear friends at the Legion. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors celebrating Thomas’s life will be held on Saturday February 18th from 3:00 pm – 5:00 PM at the American Legion, Blue Ridge Post 164, 450 Willow Grove Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 Military honors will be at 4:30 PM at the American Legion. All family and friends are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Thomas’s name to the American Legion Post 164, 450 Willow Grove Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 or the Eleventh Hour Animal Rescue PO Box 218, Rockaway, NJ 07866 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741.
