Thomas H Guard

Thomas H. Guard, 82, of Hackettstown, NJ passed away peacefully on August 6, 2020 at Hackettstown Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Tom was born on July 9, 1938 in Philadelphia, PA.
He married the love of his life Marge Powers in 1962. Together they raised 3 children in Succasunna, NJ. Tom was employed by General Motors Acceptance Corporation as an accountant prior to his retirement in 1992. He retired for a second time after working for 12 years at Beneficial Insurance. A lifelong avid golfer, he then worked as the starter at the Flanders Valley Golf Club.
Tom spent four years proudly serving in the Air Force after high school. He was a New York Mets and Dallas Cowboys fan. He was also a voracious reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Above all, he was never happier than when he was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his devoted wife Marge Guard, his loving children, Sue Fryer and her husband Jim; Lynne Guard; Michael Guard and his wife, Karin; his cherished grandchildren: J.T. Fryer, Christopher Roberts, Customs and Border Patrol Officer (and wife Kamryn), Hunter Guard, 1st Lt. Andrew Fryer USAF, 1st Lt. Sawyer Guard USAF and Patrick Fryer.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 from 2-4 PM and again from 7-9 PM at the Maguire-Scala Memorial Home; 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Mountain Roman Catholic Church, 2 East Springtown Road, Long Valley, NJ 07853.
