Steven M. Scheel, 68, of Budd Lake, NJ passed away peacefully on February 17, 2019 at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ with his family by his side.
Steven was born on July 15, 1950 in Englewood, NJ to Carl and Diane Scheel.
Steven was a graduate of Centenary and Fairleigh Dickinson University where he earned his Master's degree in education. Steven proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded several medals, ribbons and citations for his service. Although he was employed as a History teacher, his favorite career was that of a military broadcaster. He truly enjoyed his time on the radio. While overseas, he met his future wife Donna in Germany who also was serving in the Army at the time. Together they traveled all over Europe finding new adventurous places.
Steven and Donna celebrated 40 years of marriage. Steven enjoyed playing Dungeons and Dragons and traveling. Above all, he treasured the time spent with his grandson Connor. Together they would go for haircuts and play miniature golf. He will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his devoted wife Donna Scheel, loving daughters, Shannon M. Scheel and Samantha C. Scheel, and his cherished grandson, Connor L. Scheel. His parents, Carl and Diane Scheel, his siblings, Carla Scheel, Marie Cruttenden and Carl J. Scheel. In-laws, Susan J. Coppola, William J. Kongesor, Kenneth J. Kongesor, Doreen McLaughlin and Catherine G. Strauss and loved by many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parent-in-laws, William and Doreen Kongesor.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 5-8 PM at the Scala Memorial Home, 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 22, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Washington Crossing National Veteran's Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940
