Stanley Laurence Pfeifer (1928-2017)
It is with great sadness that the family of Stanley Pfeifer announces his passing on September 14, 2017 at the age of 88 years old. A native of Morristown, born on December 2, 1928, Stanley went to Morristown schools and graduated from Morristown High School. Upon graduation, he joined the US Naval Air Corps on October 1, 1946 and designed early navigation systems prior to working for Reaction Motors where he designed rocket engines for the NASA space program; his designs are featured in the Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. Later, he worked for Becton Dickinson designing medical testing equipment. He returned to the Morris County area when he married his wife Marie and raised his three children in Mendham. His later years were spent in Hackettstown near his daughter Arlene and family.
Stanley enjoyed spending summers on Long Beach Island, many walks in the park with his dog Indie, hiking, building World War II model planes, and fishing. He spent much of his time in the park flying remote controlled planes, and in his later years, up until age 86, he could often be seen riding his bicycle through the streets of Hackettstown. He is most remembered for his kind, giving, and caring nature.
Stanley will be lovingly remembered by his former wife Marie, his daughter Arlene Reilly, his son-in-law Robert Reilly and his son Ken Pfeifer. Stanley is also survived by his three grandchildren Timothy, Christine, Michael, and beloved dog Indie. He is predeceased by his daughter Clare Pfeifer, and sisters Jacqueline Wilson and Marjorie Kelly.
A celebration of Stanley’s life will be held at Scala Memorial Home at 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 on Tuesday September 19, 2017 at 4 PM. Flowers may be sent to 124 High St. Hackettstown, NJ 07840. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in Stanley’s name.
