Robert Tighe, 83, of Long Valley, NJ died peacefully at Hackettstown Hospital on September 29, 2016.
Born on May 15, 1933 in Astoria, NY to the late Archie and Edna Tighe.
Robert was a graduate of Hackettstown High School class of 1952. After graduation he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Robert was a Golden Gloves Boxer in NY. He went on to further his education upon returning from his military tour, earning his bachelor's degree at NY University and his Masters degree in education from Montclair State. Robert was employed as a guidance counselor for Northern Valley Regional High School. Robert was honored to receive the New Jersey School Counselor of the Year award in 1986 and the Certificate of Appreciation for his outstanding and dedicated service the following year from Northern Valley District. In 1989 he was recognized as Counselor of the County by the NJ School Counselors Association. He was a member of the American Legion Blue Post 164 in Hackettstown, NJ. He enjoyed writing and was an avid reader. He was a member of the Christian writing work shop. He also loved building model ships. Above all of his accomplishments in life which he humbly accepted, he cherished his family and treasured every moment spent with them.
Robert is survived by his loving daughters, Ann Tighe, Nancy Donnelly and her husband Brian, Susan Tighe and Jennifer Tighe. 4 treasured grandchildren, Julia, Kayla, Megan and Leah. He is preceded in death by his devoted wife Frances who passed in 2012. A brother Richard Tighe and a sister Betty Wysocki Friends and family may pay their respects on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 from 4-8 PM at the Scala Memorial Home. 124 High St. Hackettstown, NJ 07840. Funeral services will be celebrated Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ
