Michael Strifler

Michael Strifler, a long-time resident of the Hackettstown area, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2019. He was 97 years old. Michael was born on November 4, 1921 in Elek, Hungary to the late George Strifler and Magdalena (Braun) Strifler. Michael was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Therese (Zenz) Strifler in March 2017. Michael graduated college in Hungary with a BS degree in agricultural science. Sadly, WW II prevented him from pursuing his career in Hungary because he was drafted into military service. In 1950 he immigrated to the United States, and after trying several jobs, he focused on a career in real estate and building management. He married the love of his life Therese Strifler in 1953, and they resided in New Rochelle, NY where they raised their three children. After retirement, Michael and Therese moved to Hackettstown, NJ to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Michael had many interests. He was a master gardener and spent many hours working in his garden and making his own wine. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, reading, playing chess, swimming, music, and playing cards with their neighbors. He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, and was always ready for a conversation on just about any topic. But most of all, Michael loved his family and treasured every moment spent with them. He will be sadly missed by all.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving children, a daughter Ingrid Misurelli, a son George Strifler and his wife Virginia, and a son Walter Strifler; his grandchildren, Frank Misurelli and his wife Erin, and Michael Misurelli; his great-grandchildren Joey, Grace, Jack and Frankie. He is also survived by his beloved sister Anny (Strifler) Ament and her husband Bart Ament along with many nieces, nephews. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 6 to 9 PM at the Maguire-Scala Memorial Home, 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ. A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 11 AM at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 302 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 95 Kings Highway, New Rochelle, NY.
