Michael K. Freund, 60, of Port Murray, NJ passed away peacefully on August 23, 2016 at Hackettstown Hospital with his family by his side. Born on May 13, 1956 in Waukegan, IL, to Kenneth Freund and the late Carol Freund. Mike was a member of the first graduating class of Mount Olive High School in 1974 where he was nominated as athlete of the year. He married the love of his life Linda shortly after graduation and together they created and lived a beautiful life. Mike was employed as a construction contractor and a member of the Carpenters Union Local 620 in Madison, NJ for 30 years. He took pride in giving back to his community, coached his children and their friends while growing up, and both a member and past President of the Mansfield Township Recreation Association. Mike loved to golf and could be found at Architects Golf Club every weekend. He was an avid gardener, bird watcher, and loved college basketball; Duke was his favorite team and for 19 years he was a basketball officiator for high school Mike was of the Catholic faith, but above all he adored and was committed to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years Linda, his loving children, a daughter, Erika Freund, 2 sons, Michael J. Freund and his wife Megan, and Samuel Adam Freund and his wife Lauren. His father Kenneth, and wife Tess, brother Dave Freund, wife Katie, sister Cindy Klocinski, husband Hank, brother Paul Freund and wife Kyli, and known as ‘Pop Pop to his grandchildren Logan, Greyson and Addilyn. He is preceded in death by his mother Carol who passed in 1997, and paternal grandmother ‘Dot'. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 3-8 PM at the Scala Memorial Home; 124 High St., Hackettstown, NJ 07840 In accordance with the family's wishes, funeral service will be private. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Scala Memorial Home, 124 High St. Hackettstown, NJ 07840 The family is asking that donations be made in his name to support Mansfield Municipal Recreation Programs.
