Maria S Lopez

Maria S. Lopez, 101, of Hackettstown, NJ passed away peacefully at Hackettstown Medical Center on May 6, 2025.

Maria was born on June 27, 1923 in Milagro, Ecuador to the late Proceso Lopez Diaz and Susana Castro Macias.

She earned her nursing degree in Ecuador. Maria was very generous and kind, always helping others in every way possible. She also loved animals and spent many years with her beautiful dog Toby, whom she loved dearly. Maria helped raise her younger siblings when they lost their mom at a young age. She was very close to her sisters and brother throughout their lives. She was married to the love of her life for 77 years Luis Felipe Lara. She was a wonderful wife and mother. There is none like her. Maria was a devout Catholic. She had many interests and hobbies, Maria was an excellent cook. She was an avid reader of poetry, inspirational books and cookbooks. She also enjoyed writing. Maria wrote in a journal daily for most of her life. Her artistic talents were vast. Maria enjoyed knitting and sewing. She made stuffed bears and a variety of arts and crafts. Her talent included creating beautiful handbags, shoes, sandals and hats. Above all she loved her family. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her loving children; Lucia Molina and her husband Jose, Gina Villacres and her husband Richard and Mercy Bolick. She also leaves behind 30 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday, May 12, 2025 from 11 AM – 1 PM at the Maguire Memorial Home, 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 A Memorial service celebrating Maria’s life will immediately follow the visitation at 1:00 PM in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maria’s name to the Dawn Center for Independent Living, 66 Ford Road, Suite 121, Denville, NJ 07834
