Joyce A. Getchius

Joyce A. Getchius, 80, of Hackettstown, NJ passed away peacefully on June 24, 2017 at Hackettstown Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
Joyce was born on November 26, 1936 in Netcong, NJ to the late Peter and Antoinette Melillo.
Joyce was a graduate of Netcong High School. Shortly after High School she met and married the love of her life Earl Getchius. She devoted her life to her family. She was employed part time at Hackettstown High School and Centenary University as a cafeteria worker. Always making sure her employment did not interfere with the needs of her family.
Joyce was a member of the Hackettstown Fire Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Hackettstown American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was a fan of a variety of music which spanned from Country to Elvis Presley to Danny O'Dell. Joyce loved to dance. She will be fondly remembered for her cooking, especially her red sauce and meatballs and her Easter Italian Pie. She was an animal lover. She adored her Cocker Spaniel Scooter which she rescued. Above all of her interests she treasured her family the most. She cherished every moment spent with her children and her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Earl G. Getchius, her loving children, Son Robert Getchius, daughter Cindy Matthews and her husband Jeffrey and son Gregg Getchius and his wife Lynette. And her cherished grandchildren, grandson Bryan and granddaughter Heather and her husband Benjamin. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sisters, Antoinette Kavanaugh and Marie Tosti.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday June 28, 2017 from 4-8 PM at the Scala Memorial Home, 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840. Funeral service will be held on Thursday June 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow service at Pequest Union Cemetery in Great Meadows.
