John Zaneski, 75, of Allamuchy, NJ, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, at Hackettstown Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 16, 1949, in Newark, NJ, John was the son of the late Stanley and Mary Ann Hibell Zaneski. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Geology from Rutgers University and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. On November 9, 1974, he married the love of his life, Jean (née Jaheriss), and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures with their children.
John had a distinguished career in information technology, serving as an IT Director at Chanel for many years before working as a consultant for Pfizer (Zoetis) until his retirement. Beyond his professional life, he was a man of many passions:
He took great pride in his country, Polish heritage, and local communities including Newark NJ where he both grew up & attended college.
A devoted fan of the NY Giants, NY Mets, and Rutgers Scarlet Knights, he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams.
John had a lifelong love for dogs and shared a special bond with Aztor, his faithful companion, with whom he spent countless hours at the Allamuchy Dog Park playing catch. In later years, he also grew fond of the family’s cats, Toshka and Cheburashka.
He was an avid builder, enjoying intricate Rokr 3D puzzles and miniature modeling, even crafting a detailed scale model of his home.
John was a member of the Shongum Gun Club and enjoyed target practice. Other noteworthy passions included cars, family poker night, and Lionel trains.
His favorite time of year was Christmas, a holiday he celebrated with warmth, joy, and a deep appreciation for time spent with family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife Jean; his son David & wife Joanne; his daughter Patricia; and his sister Grace & husband Richard. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:30 PM at Maguire Memorial Home, 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ. A funeral service celebrating John’s life will immediately follow at 6:30 PM at the funeral home.
