John Curtis Slingerland

John Curtis Slingerland Jr., of Washington, NJ passed away peacefully on September 26, 2021, at Lopatcong Care Center in Phillipsburg NJ. John was born on September 26, 1942, in Patterson, NJ to the late John and Margaret Slingerland. After graduating High School John furthered his education and received his degree in computer programming. He was employed as a computer programmer for over 40 years. John was very social and decided retirement was not for him. He then took a part time position as a sales clerk for Wal-Mart. John proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army. He was of Catholic faith. John enjoyed watching sports with his son. He was a past fireman on the Riverdale and Vernon fire departments. John was an avid fan of the NY Mets and the NY Giants. Above all he adored his children and spending time with them. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving children: a son, Kenneth Slingerland and a daughter, Kara Slingerland, his caring siblings; Margaret Strittmatter, Carol Weston and Robert Slingerland. He is preceded in death by his devoted wife Kathryn Schultz who passed in 2004. Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 5-6:30 PM at the Maguire-Scala Memorial Home; 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 Funeral service with Military honors will immediately follow the visitation at 6:30 PM in the funeral home.
