John Joseph Scala Jr., 73, of Allamuchy Township, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2018 at Kindred Care Hospital in Dover, NJ.
He was born on October 7, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY to the late John Joseph Scala Sr. and Abbie (Morrison) Scala. John graduated from Islip High School and attended Farmingdale University. John served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969 and during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal. He was employed by Nucomm in Hackettstown, NJ as an Electrical Engineer. John was considered by those who knew him well as a "techie." Along with his passion for electronic designing, he enjoyed several hobbies including an automotive passion for Jaguars, fishing, and Star Trek. Later in his life his grandchildren became his most valued hobby and he treasured every moment he spent with them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Catherine, his sons, John J. Scala, III (Jeanette), and Jeff (Corinne); his grandchildren, Logan and Madison; step-grandchildren, C.J., Evangeline, Naomi, and Sarah; his sisters, Judith and Jayne; his brother, Joey; brother-in-law, Richard; sister-in-laws Alice and Jenny, and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, a brother James, and his brother-in-law Edward.
Viewing will be Sunday February 11, 2018 from 2-5 pm at Scala Memorial Home 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 (908) 852-2420. Funeral service will be Monday, February 12, 2018 from 11am-12 pm at the funeral home followed by burial at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
