Joan was born on October 1, 1950 in New York, NY to the late Harold Sonberg and Betty Lifton.

Joan was employed as a teacher for Montclair State University and Queens College prior to her retirement. She resided in Upper Montclair prior to moving to Hardwick, NJ 2 years ago. Joan loved the outdoors. She and Joel would often go camping and hiking in New Mexico, Texas and Colorado. They also enjoyed bicycling. At onetime Joan had bicycled across the country. This included the TOSRV bicycling tours in Ohio. Her love of dogs brought her to raise and show German Shorthaired Pointers, many of which were Westminster winners. Joan's love of the breed led her to writing a book about them. She was a Delegate of the AKC and a member of the KCNNJ. Joan was also a past member of the Board of Directors for the Montclair Animal Shelter. Above all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed.
In addition to her mother Betty Lifton, she is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Joel Tabor and her loving brother, Michael Sonberg and his husband Andy Austin.
