Jeffrey Valentine Gelo went to his eternal rest on July 31, 2022. He died suddenly but peacefully at home, age 63. He was the son of the late Joseph V. and Catherine M. Gelo of Hackettstown. He was born February 14, 1959 in Orange, New Jersey and lived most of his life in Livingston, before moving to Hackettstown ten years ago. He was a graduate of Livingston High School and Lincoln Technical Institute. Jeff was a master mechanic who loved working on and operating cars, motorcycles, and boats. He enjoyed boating on Barnegat Bay, playing guitar, and rooting for the Yankees. Jeff will be remembered for his unique personality, often jovial and sometimes ornery, but always generous, and for his devotion in caring for his parents in their last years. He is survived by brothers Daniel J. Gelo (Gabrielle), Bandera, Texas and Joseph A. Gelo (Amy), Long Valley, and three nephews: Terence J. Gelo (Emily), Houston, Texas; Thomas V. Gelo (Jasmine), Los Angeles, California, and Christopher J. Gelo, Long Valley. Jeff will be honored with a Catholic graveside committal service on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Hackettstown Union Cemetery.
