James W. (Jimmy) Smith, 92, of Great Meadows, NJ, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2023 at Hackettstown Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
Jimmy was born on August 11, 1930 in Frackville, Pennsylvania, to Anthony George Smith and Gertrude M. Andrews Smith.
Jimmy was a graduate of Wharton High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp as an electrician during the Korean War. Jimmy was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and collector of antique motorcycles. He was the founder of Ridge Riders in NJ, Bear Creek Motorcycle Club in NY, and Arizona Trail Riders. He rode his motorcycle up to the age of 91. He was a self-employed businessman, owning and operating North Jersey Cycle Shop and Eastern Mechanical. Jimmy officially retired in 2000, although many would say he never really retired, always building and fixing.
Jimmy married the late Anna Marie McKinney in 1954 with whom he had six children. He later married Mary Ann Pozzuto in 2003. Above all he loved his family.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Pozzuto, his loving children; James W. Smith Jr and his wife Laurie, Andrew Smith and his wife Loretta, Dana Dugan and her husband Bob, Gail Smith and her husband Peter Van Wallendael, Christopher Smith and his wife Agnieszka, and stepson Andy Dutkowski and his wife Meg. He is survived by 8 grandchildren; Katie, Benjamin, Drew, Rebecca, Acer, Alle, Anna and Abby, 3 step-grandchildren; Lilly, Andrew and Maggie, and 5 great-grandchildren; Sebastian, Ryan, Rachel, Rebecca and Reagan. He is preceded in death by his first wife Anna Marie McKinney, daughter Elizabeth Smith, stepson Tony Dutkowski and 6 siblings.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday, January 16, 2023 from 4-6:30PM at the Maguire-Scala Memorial Home, 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 Funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 6:30 in the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Oxford, NJ
