James "Jim" E. Thomas, 72, of Great Meadows, NJ passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026 at home with his loving family by his side.

Jim was born on February 16, 1954 in Rochester, NY to the late Fred Clayton Thomas and Frances (nee; Ohlinger) Thomas.

Jim was a graduate of Parsippany Hills High School class of 1973. He was employed as a B&B (Building & Bridges) Mechanic for 29 years at NJ Transit prior to his retirement in 2013. He was fondly known as "JT" by his fellow railroad employees. He enjoyed cruising the Caribbean, exploring new places with good friends on his Harley and nothing meant more to him than spending time with his family and friends. Jim could fix anything. He could often be found tinkering and was the first to lend a helping hand. Jim was very patriotic and had a heart of gold, always putting family and friends before himself. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Dawn (nee; Young); his loving son; Clayton Thomas, his mother; Frances Thomas, caring siblings; Debbie Hickey, Colleen Marra and her husband Pete, Darla Wilson and her husband Sam, Fred Thomas and his wife Barbara and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his father Fred Thomas, he is preceded in death by a brother-in-law Ron Hickey.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 2-6 PM at Maguire Memorial Home, 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 a memorial service celebrating Jim's life will immediately follow in the funeral home at 6:00.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Maguire Memorial Home and Cremation Services, 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
