James W. Maher, 84 of Hackettstown, NJ passed away peacefully on February 15, 2019 at Morristown Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
James was born on January 9, 1935 in Woodside, NY to the late James and Margaret Maher.
James graduated from Queens College with a Master's Degree in Education. He was employed as a social studies teacher at West Hempstead High School prior to his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the teacher's union and past President of the West Hempstead Education Association. James married the love of his life Judy in 1963 at St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC. He was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of Our Lady of the Mountain Roman Catholic Church. James proudly served his country in the National Guard. He was President of the Resident's Council of Heath Village for 2 terms, and was captain of a Bocce team. His hobbies included music, reading history, attending fitness classes, following Notre Dame sports and walking his beloved dog Molly. James was a talented pianist and loved to play the organ as well. He enjoyed cooking and baking, especially making French bread. He will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his devoted wife Maeve J. ("Judy") Maher, and his loving children; Sons, Jim and his wife Sue, Charley and his wife De, and daughter Eileen, as well as four cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Ryan, Sophie and Connor.
In abiding with the Family's wishes a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of James to the Heath Village Friendship Fund (430 Schooley's Mountain Road, Hackettstown, NJ 07840) or to the Pet Adoption League (P.O. Box 206, Hackettstown, NJ 07840).
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Scala Memorial Home, 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
