Henry E Strubbe

February 17, 1924 — February 4, 2021

Henry (Hank) E. Strubbe, 96, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on February 4, 2021, at his home in Budd Lake, NJ. He was born on February 17, 1924, in Glen Ridge, NJ to the late August Heinrich and Anna (Pinnow) Strubbe. Henry was raised in Bloomfield, NJ, where he helped out at the family store, Strubbe's Ice Cream & Candy. He graduated from Bloomfield High School and then proudly served his country in the United States Army, during World War II. He served in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan working in the same building as General MacArthur. He often shared with family the details and numerous photos from his time in the war. After returning from WW II, Hank began his career with New Jersey Bell Telephone System progressing from lineman to computer technician. It was here that he met his beloved wife of 57 years, Irene Dolores Hrones Strubbe. After retiring in 1986, they moved from Parsippany, NJ to Smith Mountain Lake, VA. A member of Halesford Baptist Church, he enjoyed Bible study and teaching Sunday school. Together, they started a picture framing business, and enjoyed boating, cooking, gardening and general lake living. In addition to enjoying photography, Hank was a skilled craftsman and wood worker, finishing some of his own homes and building furniture for his family. Hank was quick-witted with a keen sense of humor, and thoroughly enjoyed music. Henry is survived by his five loving daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and John Mill, of Ellicott City, MD; Audrey and Roy Ridings of Budd Lake, NJ; Gail and Greg Cannarozzi of Oradell, NJ; Jeanne and Jerry D'Ascoli of Hawthorne, NJ; and Nicole and Nathan Hughes of Charlotte, NC. He also leaves behind many cherished grandchildren, Lindsay Wagner, Meredith Mill, Davis Mill, Derek Ridings, Janeen Ridings, Raymond Cannarozzi, Lillian Cannarozzi, Joseph D'Ascoli, Nicole D'Ascoli, Danielle D'Ascoli, Owen Hughes, and Nora Hughes, as well as a future great-grandson. He also leaves behind a dear sister, Florence Buggle, and a sister-in-law, Ruth Hrones. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his devoted wife, Irene, who passed in 2010. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Henry's name to the Billy Graham Association (www.BillyGraham.org) or Thru the Bible (www.TTB.org). A memorial service celebrating Hank's life will be planned by the family at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Maguire-Scala Memorial Home, 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840, (908)852-2420.
