Henri M. Mardaga June 8, 1939 - November 11, 2025
Henri M. Mardaga, 86, of Andover, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Henri was born on June 8, 1939, in Liège, Belgium, to the late Gaston Mardaga and Lucia Marenne. Sponsored by his aunt, he courageously immigrated to the United States to build a new life filled with opportunity and promise. This act of faith and determination would become one of the defining chapters of his life story.
After arriving in the United States, Henri proudly served his adopted country in the U.S. Army. His military service instilled in him a deep appreciation for freedom and citizenship-values he carried with him every day. Becoming an American citizen was one of Henri's proudest accomplishments, and he often spoke with gratitude about the chance to live and contribute to the country he so dearly loved.
Henri built a fulfilling career as a logistics specialist with Hankook Tires, where he was admired for his attention to detail, professionalism, and dependability.
Outside of his professional life, Henri had many passions that reflected his thoughtful and inquisitive nature. He was an avid reader who enjoyed exploring a wide range of topics, from world history to science. His home was filled with books, puzzles, and his remarkable collection of National Geographic magazines, which dated back to the 1960s-a testament to his lifelong curiosity about the world.
Henri also enjoyed the quiet rewards of daily life. He could often be found working in his vegetable garden, where he found peace and purpose tending to the earth and growing the foods he loved to share with family. He was especially fond of Sudoku puzzles, finding joy in their challenge and the satisfaction of solving them.
A proud member of the American Legion, Henri valued the camaraderie and sense of belonging that came from his fellow veterans. His commitment to service, both in uniform and in spirit, was a reflection of his deep respect for community and country.
Above all, Henri was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He cherished every moment spent with his family and loved ones. He will be remembered for his integrity, gentle humor, and unwavering kindness.
Henri is survived by his children, Peter Mardaga and Claudine Mardaga (Mark McGovern); his grandchildren, Alexandra, Nicole, Luke, and Matthew; and his sister, Germaine.
In addition to his parents, Henri was predeceased by his beloved wife, Yola, who passed away in 2012; his brothers; and his loyal Akita companion, Dakota, who held a special place in his heart.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Henri's name to Common Sense for Animals, reflecting his lifelong love and respect for animals.
