Gertrude M. Kohler, 95, formerly of Hackettstown, NJ passed away peacefully on June 26, 2018 at Merry Heart Assisted Living in Succasunna, NJ with her family by her side.
Gertrude was born on July 15, 1922 in Pforzheim, Germany to the late Albert and Marie Hornberger.
She was a graduate of Union High School, Class of 1939. She married the love of her life, Kurt Kohler, in 1942. They celebrated 71 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2013. Gertrude was employed as a Jewelry inspector for Tessler & Weiss in Union, NJ prior to her retirement in 1983. She was of the Presbyterian faith. Gertrude enjoyed sewing, was an avid reader and loved to travel to Canada and Germany. She also enjoyed watching "Brit-Coms" on television. She was the family member who kept in touch with everyone in order to keep family and friends advised of others. She loved her children and grandchildren and treasured the moments spent with them. She will be greatly missed.
Gertrude is survived by her loving daughters, Margaret Knust, Helen Kohler and Cynthia Scheffler. Her caring grandchildren, Barbara Knust, Andrew Knust, Juliann Beasley and Thomas Scheffler. She also leaves behind 6 great-grandchildren: Sabina, Oliver, Leo, Nora, Byram and Charlotte. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Kurt Kohler.
Funeral services will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gertrude's name to the Alzheimers Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter, 400 Morris Ave Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834-1365
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Scala Memorial Home 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
