March 16, 1935 — March 13, 2024

Gertrude Marie Hauschildt, 88, of Hackettstown, NJ passed away peacefully on March 13, 2024, at the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice in Fredon, NJ with her eldest son and grandson by her side.

Gertrude was born on March 16, 1935, in East Orange, NJ to the late Hubert and Theresa Gutelhofer.

Gertrude, affectionately known as “Trudie” graduated from East Orange High School, after which she worked for the General Electric company in Bloomfield, NJ as a secretary. She enjoyed going to big band dances, where she met Adolph “Ed” Hauschildt, who was a skillful and captivating dancer. After many dances together, they married in 1954 and celebrated 60 years of marriage until Ed’s passing in 2015. After getting married she lived for 5 years in Irvington, NJ where she started a family. In 1960 she moved to New Providence, NJ where she resided in her newly built home for 55 years while raising her family. While in New Providence, she enjoyed swimming laps at the community pool, playing tennis, gardening, and taking walks in the fresh air. She acquired a part time job working for the town as a uniformed Crossing Guard. This gave her the opportunity to assist in providing crowd control for the Carlos Santana concert at the local High School. After raising her family, she took pride in working as the Secretary for Cino Equipment Company in Berkeley Heights, NJ. In 2015 she moved to Hackettstown, NJ to be closer to her grandchildren, where she lived for almost 9 years until her passing. While in Hackettstown she enjoyed socializing, playing cards, Bingo and Rummikub and attending the occasional grandchildren’s school soccer and lacrosse games. She loved music and took pleasure in attending performances of the NJ Symphony Orchestra. She was an avid soccer fan and enjoyed watching MLS and Premier League matches on television. Trudie was a great cook and was enthusiastic about creating one-of-a-kind soups. She loved receiving greeting cards and paid careful attention to selecting cards for others with the perfect sentiments. She loved to talk and reminisce and will always be remembered for her perpetual conversations. She loved her friends and family and will be missed.

Trudie is survived by two sons and a daughter, a grandson and granddaughter, a sister, three nieces and a nephew.
