Douglas H Romaine

Douglas H. Romaine, 80, of Belvidere, NJ passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024 at Hackettstown Medical Center with his loving wife by his side.

Douglas was born on September 16, 1943 in Dover, NJ to the late William and Jessie Romaine.

Previously residing in Rockaway, NJ, he moved to Belvidere a year ago. Douglas married his long time companion this past year. Prior to his retirement in 2019, he was self employed owning DHRCC building company. Douglas to this day is the only Democrat elected freeholder is Morris County history. He was obsessed with politics and always kept up on current events. Douglas was an avid fisherman and a member of Trout Unlimited. His hobbies included fly tying, photography and building model boats. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his devoted wife Elizabeth Rossi, his loving children, Fredrick Romaine and Alyson Fitzsimmons. His adored grandchildren Amanda Romaine and David and Joseph Fitzsimmons. He also leaves behind his step-children Dara McDonald and her husband Michael and Donna Bachler and her husband Don. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son-in-law Michael Fitzsimmons, his step-children, Darrin and Danielle Rossi and his siblings Bobby & Billy Romaine.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 5-8 PM at Maguire Memorial Home & Cremation Services, 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840. Memorial service will immediately follow the visitation at 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
