David A Schmidt

David A. Schmidt, 84, of Mendham, NJ (formerly of Hackettstown, NJ) passed away peacefully at Morristown Medical Center on May 3, 2025.


David was born on February 9, 1941 in Bronx, NY to the late Fredrick and Ruth Schmidt.


After graduating from Fairlawn High School, David proudly served in the United States Navy as a Chef. He spent the majority of his career employed as a car salesman for over 40 years prior to his retirement in 2016. He was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hackettstown. You could find David on the golf course, at home cheering on the NY Yankees, or planning his next trip to his home away from home, LBI. His favorite holiday was St. Patrick’s Day and loved both attending and participating in the Hackettstown parade. He was an auto enthusiast and enjoyed attending car shows. He often could be found watching Mecum Car Auctions on television. He was a huge Jimmy Buffet fan and a self-proclaimed parrothead. He will be remembered as the life of the party and will be greatly missed.


He is survived by his loving children; Christopher Schmidt and his wife Kari; Kelly Schmidt and her husband Jeffrey; Elizabeth Schmidt-Muguira; Rebecca Schmidt; Jill McKenna and her husband Christopher; David Corin and his wife Shannon; Karin Bortisser; Michael Ward and his wife Dania. David also leaves behind his siblings, James Schmidt and his wife Donie; Elzabeth Schmidt and several loving grandchildren. In addition to his parents; he is preceded in death by a brother Fredrick Schmidt.


A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.


Donations may be made in David’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105


Arrangements have been entrusted to Maguire Memorial Home.
