Daniel Smith, 64, of Washington Township, Morris County, NJ passed away peacefully on November 27, 2019 at home with his loving niece by his side.
Daniel was born on April 27, 1955 in Morristown, NJ to the late Leonard & Carolyn Smith
He was a graduate of Mendham High School. He lived in Tennessee for many years, prior to moving back to NJ 5 years ago. Daniel was employed as a Tool & Die Engineer for many years. He was known to be able to fix anything. He loved tinkering and often would dismantle electronics and computers and put them back together. In doing so he would invent other uses for these items. He had a rock and roll spirit and loved meeting people of different cultures. He would play chess daily on the computer with a gentleman in Germany. Daniel was a Hamm radio enthusiast and would talk to people all over the world. He enjoyed motorcycles, Honda motorcycles were his favorite. Those who knew him will remember him as a mad scientist who liked to invent new things and repurpose items for other uses.
He is survived by his caring niece Amy Todd, his cousins; Nancy and Charles Rateau and his Aunt Phyllis Rateau. In addition to his parents Leonard and Carolyn Rateau; he is preceded in death by his brother David Smith and his sister Wendy Todd
A memorial service celebrating Daniel's life will be held at a later date.
