Carol A Wicki

January 11, 1941 — January 16, 2024

Major Carol A. Wicki, 83, of Great Meadows, NJ passed away on January 16, 2024 at her home.

Carol was born on January 11, 1941 in Morristown, NJ to the late Stephen and Julia Wicki.

She was a graduate of Hackettstown High School Class of 1959. Carol enlisted in the United States Army where she served as a nurse during the Vietnam War. Earning the rank of Major, Carol’s tour in Vietnam put her 1 mile from the front line where she and her fellow nurses lived in a bunker underground for safety to ensure they were available for the many surgeries performed. Upon returning to the States she made a career in the military traveling all over the world. In 1968, Major Carol was interviewed by Walter Cronkite. She finished her military career at Walter Reed Hospital, retiring from the military in 1986. As a civilian, she worked at Hackettstown Hospital until her retirement in 1998. Carol was a dog lover and raised Champion Huskies. Having as many as 12 show dogs at a time, she was also a member of the dog sled club in Blairstown. Carol enjoyed watching medical and CSI shows. She will be sadly missed.

She is survived by her loving cousins, Linda Bender and her husband Gerald and Robert Fleming and his wife Marsha. She also leaves behind her 2nd cousin Paul Bender who in recent years was her main caregiver, and many other cousins.

A graveside service will be held privately.

Donations may be made in Carol’s name to the Lakota Wolf Preserve, 89 Mount Pleasant Road, Columbia, NJ 07832, or an animal shelter of one’s choice.

All arrangements have been entrusted to Maguire-Scala Memorial Home.
